“Dreadlock Holiday” in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Over the last week or so I’ve had a number of people question why I haven’t put any editions of this blog out. Well, there were three actually and I have to be honest that one of them was me. So I can hardly claim that public demand ‘forced’ me to put fingers to keyboard!

I’ve intended to write an edition most days but …

I’ve stuck with my normal routine (it worked before so why not just recently?). You know, the early morning period (anytime from 04.30 hours) out on the veranda. Yes, the western, lagoon facing one, with a mug of black, unsweetened coffee. The lazy kind – instant. Just how I like it!

Fully mentally chilled – but not physically with the generally windless, hot and humid days we’ve been experiencing of late- I’ve enjoyed a continuation of my ‘me time’ with breakfast at

Estel’s Dine By the Sea.

All of the necessary ‘ingredients’ to get the creative juices (I, of course, use that term extremely loosely in my case) flowing. But nothing. Writer’s block of the severe kind.

I tried weeding the garden. This mind numbing task normally gets me thinking of loads of stuff just so I’m not thinking of how boring weeding actually is. But this failed to work too.

And then I picked up on the news of the massive event that is taking place this Saturday night when Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather fights Manny Pacquaio for the WBO, WBC and WBA welterweight titles. Huge eh. Two guys putting so much at stake on the result of a boxing match.

Mayweather and Pacquaio ? No, I mean Coconut Leo and Carlo Segura (THE Carlo of Carlo & Ernie’s Runway Bar & Grill). Leo and Carlo have taken betting on a boxing to hair raising heights. Why? Well the loser gets to have his head shaved!

Now with Carlo (he is backing Pacquaio) we will hardly notice the difference. But Coconut Leo!!!! How will he be able to do a rendition of “No woman, No Cry” absent his dreads?

It’s going to ‘lose’ something with a bald Leo. Isn’t it.

Now with Carlo

Who’ll know the difference?

So where is this major event taking place? Well – if you’re interested the Mayweather v Pacquaio fight is being held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. But the major event of the evening – Coconut Leo v Carlo Segura- is being held at Carlo & Ernie’s Runway Bar & Grill.

Personally I feel that Coconut Leo has put far more at risk than Carlo and I call upon Carlo to offer up his eyebrows as well if he loses. Do you agree? If you do then let your feelings be known on the ‘ Runway’s Facebook page.

Now remember if Mayweather loses then Coconut Leo is in for a dreadlock holiday (yes, I know it’s a terrible link).

The headline for today’s edition is based on the single released in 1978 by 10cc which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and number forty-four on the US Billboard Hot 100.

“White Wedding” in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Well I’ve managed to wrest control of the iPad from Ziggy after his blogging escapade and thought I bring you up-to-date with what Rose and I have been up to.

Feeling a little down after saying goodbye to Frank last Wednesday Rose and I had the perfect pick-me-up. We had a wedding to go to. And a beach wedding at that.

The son and wife-to-be of friends of ours had decided that they would tie the knot on Ambergris Caye and they arrived to find that all arrangements had been taken care of by his mother Connee and step father Bill at Exotic Caye Beach Resort .

Rose and I arrived early – we’d been told that the wedding would start sharply at 15.30 hours . Yeh, right!

“I just need the bride and groom to turn up and I can get this ‘show’ on the road”.

Groom and Best Man. I mean Woman, in place.

Groom’s proud parents make their entrance.

And the bridesmaid (daughter of the bride) too.

And (at last) the Bride with her son to ‘give’ her away.

Time for the ceremony to begin.

Husband and Wife.

Time for the first dance.

And then the proud parents shared the ‘dance floor ‘ with the newly weds .

Dancing not for you?

Well there’s always a slice of cake!

Now I don’t think even the most blinkered of people that know me would say that I’m a sentimentalist or a romantic but even I have to admit that there’s something about a white wedding. Especially when it’s on a beach on Ambergris Caye.

Unfortunately Ziggy wasn’t included in the wedding invitation but he quickly got over his disappointment when Rose and I took him out on Sunday and he got to meet a big fan of his. Jenny Bryan from Michigan.

As soon as Jenny arrived at Carlo & Ernie’s Runway Bar & Grill she recognised Ziggy and came over and introduced herself. Ziggy though wasn’t his normal placid and friendly self. He growled at her. Maybe he hadn’t gotten over the disappointment of not being invited to the wedding!

Jenny though persevered and (with the aid of a treat) eventually won him over.

A cold and aloof Ziggy.

One treat later. So easily persuaded !

Seriously though Jenny it was good to meet you. And you win Ziggy over with her patently obvious love of dogs.
