“Deja Vu” in Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Another trip to the Dental Center yesterday but I won’t bore you with all of the (gory) detail. This time I caught the Belize Express Water Taxi 8.30 am service to Belize City for my 10.30 am appointment. Apart from a different water taxi service everything was the same as the previous day. Deja vu.

After just over three hours in the chair and with a mouth that felt exceedingly sore I got the 3 pm boat back to San Pedro where Rose was waiting for me so that we could take a trip to our build in Ambergris Caye, Belize.

We thought that by the time we got there the guys would be cleaning their tools and getting ready to pack up for the day but pleasingly we were wrong. They were applying the finishing coat to the Second Floor exterior veranda wall and it had to be finished. No coming back the next day to finish it off!

Four of the guys working in a fairly tight space.

A better shot.

And Martin, on the left in the photo, with a more conventional (well at least for me) float.

Inside the house most of the attention had been directed towards making the window apertures the correct size.

Clerestory windows on the Second Floor, following Zapeda’s work on them, now the correct size.

I have mentioned before how innovative the guys are and the latest display of this is the clamps that they make to hold form boards in place.

Forms clamped in to position around the middle of the three clerestory windows.

First Floor kitchen window (north facing) finished.

The electrician/plumber had also finished fitting the pipes in the First Floor bedroom (Rose’s handicraft room) that will take rainwater to the water tank.

Talking about the water tank, I happened to notice the overflow pipes. Should have noticed them long ago but …

On the southern side of the water tank.

The guys finished off plastering the veranda wall, cleaned their tools, got changed and headed off home.

The first ‘wave’ (those that got changed the quickest) on their way home for a well deserved rest.

On the way home Rose and I popped in to BC’s for a beer ( I needed to find out how the teeth would handle the cold liquid!) and whilst we were there the moon was rising.

The photograph doesn’t do it justice. It was wonderful.

The headline is based on the 2006 single by Beyoncė ( featuring her husband Jay-Z) which reached number four in the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one in the UK Singles Chart.

  1. Nice – I’m new here but I’m very exited to find this place.
I’m still in the US just got my property pay for and thinking of building a house. If you could share some info about the contractor and price for your beautiful house – it will be great,
    Thanks
    Derek

    • Derek, the contractor we are using is Daniel Camal and we are very happy with the way he has managed our project. If you want I can let you have his email and telephone contact detail. The cost of build will depend upon a host of factors including, but not limited to, where you build, what type of house you build, how small or large it is, what quality of fittings you go for, etc. No two houses are likely to cost the same. Good luck with your plans. Regards John

  2. What can I say? I’m impressed with the build. It has really moved on once again since my last visit. Hope your both keeping well. I have some pictures of Cody to send over to you very soon. I will send them within the next week hopefully.

    • Not long to go now Brad. Around 11/12 weeks and we could be ‘in’. We would love to see some photos of Cody. And some of Shorona and you too. The apartment would suit the three of you!

  3. You probably will have a load of free time once this build is finished.
Except for the decoration and landscaping.
    Congrats it looks great !

    • The decorating will be done Paul so should have a couple of years before I have to do anything on that front. The landscaping though is another thing. Will probably take me longer than the build!

  4. John… Think next time… If you had stood a few yards to the left you could have had the moon balanced on top of the bright pole sticking upwards….lol Hows your mouth after the cold beer ?
    Regards… Andy
